Do you have the skills to be a strong and effective Team Leader?
The IDATA Unit is part of EFSA’s ENABLE Department, which delivers services enabling, supporting and guiding the risk assessment production work, promoting integration and synergies between the sectoral areas and ensuring the quality and efficiency of the scientific process.
The IDATA Unit:
- Collects, collates, manages and analyses data on biological and chemical hazards in food and feed as well as on food consumption.
- Provides EFSA with the analytical, statistical, and methodological support to collect, elaborate, visualise, and analyse corporate (non-scientific) data.
- Designs, co-creates and enables the use of collaborative digital platforms and tools to facilitate data exchange with Member States, EU and international institutions.
- Manages controlled terminology for scientific data.
- Coordinates the work of the Scientific Networks on Zoonoses, Chemical Monitoring and Food Consumption data.
- Manages databases on biological hazards and chemical substances, food consumption data and pre-application dossier data.
- Produces annual European monitoring reports on pesticides and veterinary medicinal drug residues.
- Coordinates bioinformatic services for ASSESS and ENABLE units.
- Act as People Manager for the team, ensure the successful planning, coordination, execution and reporting of the work programme of the team in agreement and under the supervision of the Head of Unit. Supervise people and performance, and support the development of team members to their fullest potential
- Ensure that your team members have a clear understanding of their individual and team objectives and how they contribute to the implementation of the department workplans and EFSA strategy;
- Ensure the team members are equipped and sufficiently supported to achieve successful results. Ensure effective measures are in place to meet priorities and deadlines to escalate risks and propose mitigating actions in line with EFSA’s quality standards;
- Lead by example and provide day-to-day coaching and leadership to Team members and, where needed, to other staff engaged in specified projects or activities, as appropriate to their position.
- Ensure seamless flow of information both ways between staff and middle management. Contribute to clear communication and implementation of the Unit roadmap in line with EFSA’s overall strategy by supporting the Head of Unit in conveying the key messages of vision, direction and leadership;
- Provide advice to the Head of Unit on key topics in the area of expertise. Support the Head of Unit with the performance management cycle, the onboarding of new colleagues and in implementing the policy context and priorities in the respective area in line with EFSA’s overall strategy and objectives;
- Drive innovation in the relevant area; understand the impact of new developments in your field of expertise on your team and EFSA;
- Ensure optimum deployment of the Team resources and sound financial management by supporting the Head of Unit in defining budget requirements, preparing forecasts and monitoring budget execution in the respective area

- Various allowances to which the successful jobholder may be entitled, such as a household allowance, expatriation allowance (16% of basic salary), dependent child allowance and education allowance. The salary is subject to a Community tax deducted at source and staff members are exempt from national taxation.

i. Proven professional experience in data collection, data management and data analysis supported by profound knowledge of data, information and/or technology architecture, preferably in the Cloud, and data governance and data quality principles;
ii. Proven professional experience in service management, particularly in the delivery of data or IT services and in designing, creating, enabling and running digital platforms and tools to facilitate data exchange, data analysis and data dissemination, preferably in the areas of biological/chemical hazards, food consumption, cheminformatics or bioinformatics.
iii. Experience in successfully coordinating or leading teams and/or managing projects and/or re-organisational projects, translate project goals into clear objectives, planning and resource management;
iv. Experience in managing, measuring process performance indicators and in leaning/improving processes for technical or data domains.
v. Experience in building strong collaborative partnership across teams, units or stakeholders with different backgrounds and contexts being able to understand and communicate highly technical topics to different audiences;
Shortlisted candidates shall take part in an assessment centre evaluating their behavioural and managerial capacity. The assessment centre is carried out by an external consultant. Successful candidates will be placed in the talent pool.
